Follicular Unit Transplantation Sarasota FL

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

Located in Sarasota, Florida, and serving all of greater Tampa Bay, Hair Transplant Center provides exceptional service and results designed to help our clients to restore their confidence.

Thinning hair is a concern for many people, and they can become frustrated when nothing they try seems to halt the process of gradually balding. While typically associated with aging, hair loss may also result from several other factors – from genetics and medical conditions to trauma.

In the past, the only option for hair transplants involved hair plugs that resulted in unnatural-looking hair. These plugs were often noticeable and could cause as much self-consciousness as the balding itself. However, today’s solutions provide permanent solutions to balding, resulting in genuinely natural-looking outcomes. In contrast to wigs or plugs, hair transplants look like natural hair growth – and can be achieved in as little as one day. Today’s hair transplants insert hair follicles into the thinning areas, filling gaps in an otherwise healthy head of hair.

A FUT hair transplant is an excellent option if you want a fuller-looking head of hair and are ready for a real solution. The Hair Transplant Center – Sarasota offers follicular unit transplantation (FUT) to restore your receding hairline with natural-looking results. Dr. Hamwi, Clinician Gieger, and Clinician Daniels have expertise in the most innovative follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedures and are here to help.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

What Is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)?

FUT hair transplant surgery is appropriate for those with receding hairlines and balding areas of the scalp caused by male pattern baldness. The process involves taking a strip from the back or side of the head to extract individual follicles, which are then transferred to thin spots, effectively covering them.

The technique mimics the hair’s natural growth and guarantees the transplanted hair will look like your own, even after it begins to grow again.

Hair transplants such as FUT are a potential solution for people who want to restore their hair’s fullness and density. While it may not work for everyone, those experiencing thinning or balding should speak with an experienced hair restoration professional to discuss the possibilities. The Hair Transplant Center – Sarasota offers the most innovative follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedures and is here to help with any questions you may have.

FUE vs. FUT: Which Is More Effective?

How Does Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) Work?

Removing a Strip of Skin: The FUT process involves cutting a strip of skin from the back of the head, typically a half-inch wide and not more than 6 inches long. The donor area is numbed with local anesthesia, as the patient is awake during the procedure, which can take 4-8 hours to complete.

Preparation of Follicles: The necessary size of the strip will be determined by how many follicles the team requires to cover the thinning and balding areas. Once the strip is removed, follicles are prepared, cut, or dissected into units with one to four hairs.

Positioning the Follicles: Once the follicles are ready, the surgeon makes tiny cuts in the scalp to set each follicular unit, taking care to minimize noticeable scarring as much as possible. Incisions will be placed near thinning spots so that regrown hair will cover bald spots effectively.

After Completion: After the hair transplant surgery is completed, the doctor will provide instructions for scalp care in the coming days. Immediately following the surgery, the patient may experience pain, swelling, and redness. These symptoms should diminish within a day or two, and most people can return to work within a few days. New hair growth should appear in approximately three months, although it typically takes up to 12 months to see the full, final results.

Large Hair Transplant Sessions: When performing follicular unit transplantation (FUT), an experienced hair restoration specialist can transplant multiple grafts simultaneously. This is significant for several reasons:

  • The hair transplant can be completed most efficiently, allowing the patient to return to their daily routine more quickly.
  • The procedure allows a larger number of grafts to be harvested at one time.
  • The donor site is protected by minimizing the number of necessary incisions.
  • Extracting more grafts at one time provides sufficient amounts of one and two-hair grafts to create a soft frontal hairline and enough three and four-hair grafts to ensure a full head of hair.

Removing a Strip of Skin From the Donor Site

The team will first determine the area on your head that they want to restore hair. Then, they will numb the donor area on the back of your head and take a strip of skin with hair follicles. After suturing it, they put it back over the place where you wanted more hair.

Preparing Follicular Units

Our hair restoration staff prepares the hairs from the donor so that they are in follicular units. The staff makes cuts or dissects them into units with one to four hairs. You can read, take a nap, watch TV or relax while the hair is being prepared for transplantation.

Positioning Follicular Units

Once the follicles are ready, our doctor makes tiny cuts in your scalp for each follicular unit. They do this carefully so that the scars will look natural. They also try to put the incisions close to where there is less hair. This way, it will cover up bald spots and make your hair look fuller.

After Completing the Procedure

After you have surgery, a doctor will give you instructions on how to take care of your scalp. The day after the surgery, you might experience pain. You can go back to work in a couple of days. After your surgery, any swelling and redness should go away. After three months, you might see new hair grow in. It can take up to a year to see the final results at their fullest.

The Ability to Conduct Large Hair Transplant Sessions

A hair restoration specialist can transplant many grafts when they use the follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure. This is possible for four reasons:

  • The hair transplant can be completed quickly so that the patient can go back to their daily routine not many days after the surgery.
  • A larger number of grafts can be harvested.
  • It protects the donor site by decreasing the number of times incisions are made in the donor area.
  • Extracting large numbers of grafts provides sufficient one and two-hair grafts to create a soft frontal hairline and enough three and four-hair grafts to provide a full head of hair.

Who Is a Candidate for a Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) Procedure?

FUT transplants require that the patient has sufficient hair on their head to be used as grafts. Men with male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) are the best candidates for this procedure, as their baldness typically starts around the temples or the “M-shaped” line of hair. Although less common, women can also experience androgenetic alopecia, with thinning occurring along the part and on the top of the head.

It is important to note that those with hair loss due to a medical condition, such as a thyroid disorder or alopecia areata, may not be appropriate candidates for FUT.

Here are more factors that typically qualify a candidate for follicular unit transplantation:

* Age: FUT is generally performed on those over 25, but younger candidates experiencing hair loss may qualify if they are healthy.

* Diagnosis: FUT is most successful for men with the Norwood pattern of hair loss

* Hair Thickness: Those with higher hair follicle density typically achieve better results

* Area of Thinning or Balding: FUT is appropriate for hair restoration at the front and top of the head.

* Hair Color: Those with hair color more similar to their skin tone will experience less color contrast.

Potential Side Effects of Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

FUT hair transplants are generally safe, provided the surgery is performed by a qualified doctor with experience specifically in follicular unit transplantation. However, all surgical procedures carry some risk of side effects. For FUT, these may include the following:

* Infection: An infection may occur because hair transplants involve incisions that cut the skin.

* Bleeding: Any cut or incision may result in bleeding.

* Scarring: The FUT method involves removing a strip of skin from the head. This result in a scar that may fade over time but could be visible if the hair is not worn long enough to cover the area.

* Pain and Swelling: Pain and swelling may occur after any surgical procedure. The doctor can provide medications to help with these symptoms.

* Shock hair loss: “Shock hair loss” can occur when transplanted hair falls out, typically within two months of the procedure. This is also known as donor hair effluvium – but is temporary, as new hair will grow back in approximately four months.

FUE vs. FUT: Which Is More Effective?

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a different hair restoration technique that also utilizes transplanted follicles. Both FUE and FUT are considered to be safe and effective hair transplant methods. Candidates should speak with the medical team to understand each method’s benefits and determine the best course of action for their unique situation.

Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) yields a high-quality graft that poses less risk to follicular units, allowing for more grafts in one session. This means that you can have more grafts in one session with FUT. The graft survival rate is also higher utilizing FUT.

The main benefit of FUE is that scarring tends to be much less noticeable, as incisions are smaller and scattered over the head region.

FUT Hair Transplant Cost

Sarasota Hair Transplant Center is committed to providing affordable transplants with transparent pricing and no gimmicks or hidden fees. However, you can be assured that although our prices are reasonable, our team is highly experienced and dedicated to providing an exceptional hair transplant experience.

We understand that cost is a consideration when deciding on your hair transplant options. Here are some of the variables which could affect the overall cost of the procedure:

* Amount of hair: Be sure to ask the clinic how they will charge for your surgery. While some may offer a set price for the FUT procedure, most will determine the cost based on the number of hair follicles necessary for the transplant.

* Experience of the Physician: Costs may vary significantly based on the individual clinic and the experience and reputation of the transplant surgeon. Be sure you are comparing doctors with similar expertise.

* Clinic Location: Clinics in larger cities typically charge more for procedures.

* Travel Expenses: Any necessary travel expenses should be considered when deciding on a clinic.
