The first hair transplant was performed in Japan in 1939 and involved transplants that utilized single hairs. Over the last 90 years, techniques and methods have evolved – and today, follicular unit extraction (FUE) is considered the benchmark for hair restoration. Based on the harvesting of follicular units using individual grafts, the technique takes one to three hair follicles and transplants them to the bald or thinning areas of the scalp.
With FUE technology, grafts are performed with small punches that take one hair at a time. There is no linear scar, the hair will look natural, and the donor site will not be noticeable. Smoking: When it comes to smokers, be sure to stop at least seven days before your surgery, as smoking can interfere with blood flow to the skin, impairing the healing process.
