Preparation and Procedure
Before the Surgery: Our medical team will provide instructions before your surgery so you are well prepared. Detailed instructions include guidelines on what you should eat and drink and what medications you should take or avoid in the days leading up to the surgery.
Smoking: When it comes to smokers, be sure to stop at least seven days before your surgery, as smoking can interfere with blood flow to the skin, impairing the healing process.
After the Surgery: Patients should arrange a ride home and plan to rest for a couple of days with someone to assist them.
Surgeries at the Sarasota Hair Transplant Center are office-based and take less than one day – starting in the morning and ending in the afternoon. Dr. Hamwi, Clinician Gieger, and Clinician Daniels will explain how many hair grafts are required and how long the procedure should take.
The ATERA FUE system streamlines and optimizes this process. The hand tool can be adapted to one of three different punch sizes depending on the specific case. Here is a brief explanation of the ATERA FUE procedure
- The clinician or doctor will shave the donor area at the back of the head.
- Local anesthesia is applied at the donor area to increase the patient’s comfort level.
- The hair restoration specialist will use magnification and micro punches to extract hair follicles from the donor area.
- After the extraction, the collection system places follicles in the staging area, and extracted units are digitally counted. This system also stores follicles in a moist, cooled state, which is optimal for grafting.
- The harvested hair is then carefully transplanted into the desired area.
